For
certain paper converting processes, especially
printing the knowledge of the % Equilibrium Relative
Humidity (% ERH) of the paper roll or stack is critical.
Humidity differences between ERH and Ambient Relative
Humidity (% RH) effect a moisture exchange between the
paper and the surrounding atmosphere. These moisture
changes cause dimensional variations in the paper and
consequently poor printing due to curl and positioning
and register problems. It is therefore important for the
converter to keep a close check on the % ERH of the
paper in relation to the % RH. Temperature must be
monitored at the same time since temperature differences
between the paper and the ambient air will modify the %
RF
of the immediate air layer surrounding the roll or stack
of paper.
The emco Delphin 5 is a battery operated portable
Sword Hygrometer that measures relative humidity and
temperature in stacks and rolls of paper. It features a
fast sensor response and excellent long term stability.
This provides the converter with a quick and reliable
measurement. The sturdy design will stand up to the
papermaking and converting environments.
